What this actually involves
A fob does two jobs — remote locking, and on most vehicles the immobilizer credential that lets the engine start. Replacement means supplying the fob and programming it, because an unprogrammed fob is an inert piece of plastic. Sometimes the fob is fine and only the battery or a cracked case has failed, and we will tell you when that is what we find.
Diagnosis before replacement, every time
A fob that stopped working has four suspects: a flat battery, a cracked case with a healthy board inside, a fob that lost its pairing, or a fob that is genuinely dead. Three of the four do not require a new fob, which is why the visit starts with testing rather than selling. A battery and a case are trivial fixes; a re-pair is a programming job on the fob you already own. Only when the electronics have actually failed — water is the usual culprit — does replacement enter the conversation, and you will know why.
Replacement means supplied, programmed, and proven
An unprogrammed fob is an inert piece of plastic, whatever the listing that sold it promised. Replacement here means the correct fob for your vehicle supplied and paired to it at your location — remote functions and, on most vehicles, the immobiliser credential that lets the engine start. Lost fobs are erased in the same session, so the missing one goes dead the moment yours is paired. Everything is tested before we leave: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, start.
