What this actually involves
All-keys-lost is the specific emergency this service answers: no spare in a drawer, nothing left to copy, and a vehicle that cannot be driven until a working key exists again. A new key is originated directly from the vehicle rather than duplicated from one you no longer have, cut and programmed at the vehicle wherever it is parked.
What "all keys lost" actually means for the vehicle
Most car-key jobs start from something — a spare to copy, a fob to reprogram alongside. All-keys-lost starts from nothing: no working key anywhere, and no old one to reference. A new key can still be produced by reading the vehicle's own key code or immobiliser data directly, which is a different — and usually longer — process than cutting a duplicate, because there is nothing to duplicate from. The credential is built from the vehicle's own records instead.
Why the old key matters even after it is gone
A lost key that is never accounted for is still a working key to the vehicle, in the hands of whoever finds it, unless it is specifically erased from the immobiliser. That is a separate step from programming the replacement, and it is worth doing in the same visit — especially when the key went missing rather than simply stopped working, since a genuinely missing key is the one scenario where somebody else having it is a real possibility, not a hypothetical.
